Tonight I’ll be leading this workshop. There will be experiential activities and discussion as we explore what is oppressed and whether psychiatric drugging could be a new form of oppression causing psychosis to emerge more rampantly. We will get to find and act out our own “psychotic” and emerging parts in a friendly group setting….and much more.
I heard a rumor there MIGHT be some cookies baked (unconfirmed). Feel free to bring snacks to share.
How are Spiritual Emergent Experiences Connected with Oppression? We often talk about spiritual emergence as separate from oppression, but is spiritual emergence the emergence of a voice that has been silenced? Do experiences that get called psychosis have a similar flavor? Do they occur as a fight against oppression and discrimination? These oppressive and discriminatory practices could be the silencing, demeaning, excluding or invalidating of any group, especially over a long period of time, based on gender, health, race, religion, beliefs, etc.
Which responses will facilitate the emergence from oppression and which will further oppression? What role do psychiatric drugs and mental health services play in this process of liberation from oppression? How can we, as friends, counselors, family members and community members support the emergence of new ideas when we are scared or feel oppressed ourselves? How do we fight internalized oppression and how can we create safe spaces to do so?
